Eduardo Egüez – direction

In these latitudes, the midnight sun refused to disappear and defied the horizon, while the muffled sound of the sails was overshadowed by the silence of sounds of immeasurable solitude.

A new creation in the early fusion series by the Argentinean conductor Eduardo Egüez based on the 16th century Scandinavian manuscript Piae Cantiones. With the Norwegian saxophonist Helene Artnzen, Eduardo Egüez revisits these medieval Latin melodies with astonishing similarities to traditional Scandinavian music. In search of new sounds from the language of the Middle Ages to modern music, he combines Renaissance and Baroque instruments, such as the theorbo and viola da gamba, with traditional Scandinavian instruments such as the hardingfele or nyckelharpa, and the saxophone.

A journey into the depths of the Scandinavian soul…
